Moving to South Winnipeg

Important Registration Information for Transferring Hockey Families

If your child has previously been registered with another hockey association in Canada or the U.S., even at the House League level (U7 & U9), they cannot register with South Winnipeg Hockey Association (SWHA) until a transfer process is completed through Hockey Winnipeg and/or Hockey Manitoba.

This process may take several weeks, so please start early to avoid delays.

 Transfer Process: Step-by-Step

➤ Step 1: Contact the SWHA Registrar

Email the registrar at registrar.swha@gmail.com with the following:

  • Player’s full name
  • Player’s date of birth
  • Name of the association/centre where the player was last registered

➤ Step 2: Complete Change of Residence Form

Once your email is received, you will be sent a Change of Residence form. This is required for any residential move into the SWHA area.

➤ Step 3: Provide Supporting Documents

Submit the completed form along with all required documents (see below). The registrar will then coordinate the transfer with Hockey Winnipeg.

➤ Step 4: Confirmation & Registration

Once your transfer is approved, the registrar will notify you by email. You may then proceed with online registration.

Required Documents

All change-of-residence forms must include the following:

  • Player’s birth certificate
  • Proof of new residency, such as:
A fully executed rental agreement, purchase agreement, or transfer of ownership, or
A utility bill (Hydro, gas, internet, etc.) showing the parent’s name and new address

Note: Manitoba Health cards and driver’s licenses are not accepted as proof of residency.

Important Date: September 1

The address used for registration is based on where the player resides as of September 1.
If your move is close to this date, Hockey Winnipeg may use discretion—proof of purchase or a signed rental agreement will be required.

Shared Custody & Sports Registration Authority

If parents live at different addresses in separate associations, a notarized letter signed by both parents must indicate which parent has Sports Registration Authority for each child.

  • This determines where the child is eligible to register.
  • This letter only needs to be submitted once unless changes are made.
  • Each child must register in the same association each year, unless a new notarized letter is submitted.

For details on zones and boundaries, see the Hockey Winnipeg Rulebook (Page 33).

Player Transfers (Not Due to Moving)

A player transfer is required when a player will play outside of their home area without physically moving.

How it Works:

Parent submits a Minor Transfer Application online via the Hockey Manitoba website.

The request is reviewed and must be approved by:

  • Current association
  • Receiving association
  • Hockey Winnipeg
  • Hockey Manitoba

This process can take several weeks—start early!

 Annual Approval:

  • Transfers are valid for one season.
  • After 3 consecutive years, the player is considered a member of the new association.

✅ Transferring Into SWHA

Once approved:

  • Register online with SWHA
  • Submit payment before participating in team activities
  • If applicable, request a refund from your previous association (SWHA does not manage those).

❌ Transferring Out of SWHA

Once approved:

  • Request a refund from the SWHA Registrar
  • Credit card refunds: within 1 week
  • Cheque refunds: up to 3 weeks

Note: The $60 Community Club fee is non-refundable

Additional charges for tryouts, pre-season ice, or other fees may apply.
